The perfect place to relax in Italy
Anzio is a charming seaside town located less than an hour drive from the center of Rome. As a seaside town, it offers everything you need for relaxation: full beach infrastructure, numerous bars, restaurants, shops and ice cream parlors. The expansive, golden sandy beach in Anzio is renowned for being one of the cleanest and most pristine in all of Lazio.
Nero was born in Anzio, who also had his villa here. The foundations and caves of the Villa have survived until these days.
The town also became famous during World War II for the Allied landing operation codenamed Shingle, which began in January 1944. The operation was intended to strengthen the Gustav Line and open the road to Rome. It is commonly called the Battle of Anzio.
Anzio is located an hour from the center of Rome, which is conveniently reached by train. It is also an ideal starting point for famous tourist attractions such as: Monte Cassini, Tivoli, Castel Gandolfo, Ponza Island, Saturnia Thermal Parks.
